Ride > Taman Pertanian Malaysia, Shah Alam

Hujan pagi tadi membantutkan niat mengayuh ke opis .. walaupun renyai2 kat rumah tapi laporan luar nampak gaya macam lebat jerrr sekitar lembah klang .. tapi hati masih degil nak mengayuh .. keluar masuk, keluar masuk dok tgk langit .. cerah tak cerah, hujan mcm nak mencurah ..

Date / Time : 2011 February 13, 0900hrs
Destination : Taman Pertanian Malaysia
Route : Bukit Cerakah

tak yah citer mcmana boleh sampai opis .. mmg blues la di kala pagi yang gerimis dan cool nimsss ... opis mate cuti, bos kecik dan bos besar meeting kat luar .. sambung kerja smlm sikit, settle .. just keep on monitoring and monitoring and monitoring .. (mula la nak menipu nie !!!) sambil2 menghodek album kayuhan lama2 .. terbump dgn satu kayuhan repeat bukit cerakah, shah alam ..

pernah satu masa dulu, pihak pengurusan taman mengharamkan kemasukan basikal2 persendirian .. sesapa yang nak kayuh, boleh dapatkan perkhidmatan sewa basikal kat dalam .. maklum ler klu dah basikal sewa tu, boleh agak2 ler .. dan jgn compare dgn basikal sendiri .. jauh la panggang dari api yeop ... boleh kayuh, boleh panjat, tapi brake !!! belum tentu boleh berhenti .. cukup dgn basikal sewa .. daim, bad ngan aku kami sewa jugak dulu .. lunyai kepala lutut mengayuh derrr ..

Group photo kat bawah pokok ..
Dari kiri: Farid, Rudy, Daim dan Bad

Farid dan Rudy first time kayuh sini .. berpoyo2 jer .. dgn jersey dan tight bagai .. ingat nak ke jamboree ker !!! huh .. klu pasal berfashion kasik kat dema jer lahhh .. :p as for Bad and Daim .. pun first time jugak ler .. tapi kali nie dgn basikal sendiri .. baru enjoy kayuh dan jimat berkayuh .. klu tak almost RM50 gak terbang sewa basikal seharian kat sini ..

Tar baru turap nimsss
Memang nyaman berkayuh kat sini .. teduh dipayungi pokok2 besar di kiri dan kanan laluan .. sepanjang lebih 10km .. lebih kurang la .. entrance kt tgh2 .. ke kiri taman sampai hujung dusun mau 3km, ke empangan sg baru plak 3km lagik .. for regular rider tarak papa lah nie .. naik turun bukit pun bukan nyer mencanak sgt .. takde la setaraf dragon back ..

Ape yang best nyer ntah .. penat ade la ..

Ape derrr kayuh basikal pakai baju golf ..
Daim dtg sorang jer kali nie .. biasa nya dia bawak Adam .. oleh kerna belum ade rack lagik dan dia pun nak test syok2 sorang2 .. tapi ntah ler .. la nie dah ade rack ke belum basikal dia tak tahu lerrr .. Adam pun dah besar panjang .. baik kasik basikal sebijik soh kayuh sendiri ..

On the way to simpang ke Bukit Sapu Tangan
Mari Tolak Basikal ....

Halfway to puncak Bukit Sapu Tangan ..
tak cukup nak sapu peluh klu bawak saputangan jerr
Bukit Sapu Tangan adalah puncak tertinggi kat dlm Taman Pertanian Malaysia .. berapa tinggi aku tak ukur .. jarak dari simpang jalan utama cuma 1.8km sahaja .. dekat jer .. tapi nak sampai ke atas tuh .. mau 4 kali jugak ler refill air botol .. mencanak .. dan canakan terakhir tu mmg mcm impossible jer utk dikayuhi .. tak nafi dah ramai yang lepa s.. aku jer dok tolak lagik ..

refreshment .. public pool a must stop before leaving
Taman Pertanian Malaysia, Shah Alam

Ride > Rantau Panjang

nice Saturday morning .. cycled alone to stadium .. with some new route in the head .. i'm very sure that no one would show up this morning .. because some are still work halfday .. warming up around jalan istana and back to stadium .. to check if there are anybody turn in .. hamdan was already there .. he just arrive

where to ride ? it is just 2 of us .. better .. as preset in my head .. a quick decision was made .. we think we should off to rantau panjang and explore more about the village and it surrounding areas .. we was there once during ride to bukit cahaya shah alam .. the ride was organized by the rantau panjang team .. first stop .. surau jalan haji musran .. call mr bad if he could join us and be the host to show around .. unfortuntely he is working also .. ok no big deal ..

the people are about to start the day .. open the shop .. the warung aka kedai kopi are full with local .. this village are nice and cool .. along the way of the route there are plenty of kedai kopi .. it could be a meet point to see friends and unofficial information center of the area ..

our ride has lead to end of the route .. we can't forward further ..  so we move in to main road .. the main road is link to the port klang .. to the north port .. we don't have plan ride to the port .. so we cross over to other side of the area .. still in rantau panjang but this side is next to the sea .. we could see small fisherman jetties in this area .. we turn into jalan kunci air .. the name of the road show or reflect the function of it .. we ride along the road to look for kunci air .. after few kilometers, we reached the kunci air of sg saim .. just under shahpadu highway .. next to it .. and there is a fisherman jetty also .. spent sometime for snapshots ..

leaving sg saim, we cross the shapadu highway to another side of rantau area .. now we have realize that rantau is big .. this segment seem like to be a small town or center of rantau panjang .. there is school, community clinic and shoplots .. the time show 10 am .. best time for pit stop and refreshment .. turn to jalan genting as it seem like main road out of the village area .. try to look for some unique warung to stop .. so it can be an attraction to ride here next time .. we ride and ride and ride ..

then we saw the signage ..it is very unique as per requirement .. a basikal tua hang up under the tree .. Lot 1115, WARUNG SOTO (KEDAI BASIKAL) wow !!! this must be something special here .. soto serve at kedai basikal .. yeap .. very nice warung .. the food serve are good and the environment are cool .. other than soto there is nasi goreng udang and mee udang .. the taste awesome .. during the stop we discuss to take other Rotorian to ride here as well ..

we ride back to the klang town after that .. and plan to repeat the ride here again next time .. to explore other part of the jetties .. and of course revisit the warung soto ..

feel free to look the full album of the ride at XPDC Rantau..

enjoy ride, be safe ..

Ride > Bukit Jugra

It is Saturday .. and half of the line were unable to ride .. another half day of work for this week .. but for some like me .. Saturday is holiday .. hoorayyy .. set with Raja Hassan for quick ride to Bukit Jugra, Banting .. he also try to gather some riders, but I don’t expect anyone ..

.. Raja has been waiting me in front of RodaLink Bukit Tinggi .. And as expected it just 2 of us ..  with or without them, Bukit Jugra is the final destination of today’s ride .. at 0730hrs we start paddling head toward, as planned we use the main Klang – Banting road .. heavy traffic with lorry and trailer from port to airport .. we stopby at small stall for breakfast .. having light breakfast will help to keep up the ride .. it is almost 20km so far ..

we ride till small roundabout that split the road to Banting and Pulau Carey .. we took Jalan Bandar Lama into Pulau Carey .. and then turn left to the new bridge to Jalan Pusara, Kpg Sawah ..

Kampung Sawah has been already in Jugra area .. why Jugra ? what Jugra is ? Jugra is known as early settlement of Selangor’s Sultanate.. so it has plenty of historical site to visit .. but our exploration this time just to ride up to Bukit Jugra only .. it is no rush when we have arrive .. next to the Kampung Sawah, it is Kampung Bandar, our first stop ..

Sultan Alaeddin the fifth sultan of Selangor has build Istana Bandar in 1905 and Masjid Alaeddin next to it ..  We managed to get inside the palace and spent some time there .. the palace was designated a historical monument and a historical site under the Antiquities Act 1976 in 1980. It was last use as maahad tahfiz .. while the masjid is in good condition and still being use to perform solat every time .. We move on the ride to climb Bukit Jugra .. Passing two small towns before we reach Bukit Jugra .. one is pekan Sg Buaya and another is pekan Permatang Pasir ..  stop to refilling the bottles ..

We met with few bike groups heading out to Klang .. they also from Bukit Jugra during weekend ride .. soon or later I will take Rotor X Team here .. few kilometres from last town, we reach the entrance to climb Bukit Jugra .. to rate the climbs .. for average rider it is quite tough with long climb .. but little push and light gear would be sufficient for everyone to paddle up till the top ..

Bukit Jugra is a host for Rumah Api since 1976 .. there are two towers on top .. one is the light house and another is radar tower .. from here we could see whole of Pulau Carey .. but today’s view are limited with haze ..  we couldn’t see far .. even the ship at the sea also hard to be seen .. and there comes the important of light house as a marker for ships that crossing along Selat Melaka ..

Being on top of the Bukit Jugra is my personal achievement .. before I just watch it from far .. From Bukit Jati .. I keep a willing to ride to the Bukit Jugra .. and today here I am .. but it is not all about the destination .. it is the journey that count .. ride with a buddy, hit the road, visit abandon palace, get to know local people and respect the nature .. Spent some time, enjoying the view and feel the wind blows .. and do nothing .. total relaxing ..

Enjoy ride, be safe ..

from Changi to Chiang Rai

Another day hit the road by bicycle .. a sunny and windy day .. would be tough .. the windy are due to timing factor .. the higher sun arise .. the stronger winds blow .. so ? be early larrrr ..

While climbing section 7 hill in federal … I saw a touring rider in front .. light packed .. rear rack and pannier on left and right .. small tent and utilities bag on top .. male rider .. average speed 25kmh .. fuhhh .. penat jugak la nak hambat .. but I’m getting closer while downhill .. taking advantage of the rigid and my weight (still 100kg).. and I rang the bell ..

After a word of introduction .. I signalled him to lead until we meet the batu tiga petrol station .. introduced him self as veechian of chiangrai, Thailand, 53. Professional cyclist for over 30 years .. he is on the way back to chiangrai .. he start the journey from Singapore last few days and hit to the north .. solo rider .. the 15 minutes ice breaking session are circulate about touring stories .. personally he enjoy ride and travel .. with 30 years on the saddle, I wouldn’t ask where he have been rode .. almost everywhere lar kot I guess ..
Mr veechian shared that he only take a spoon of honey (with warm water), an apple and a banana every morning before he start the journeys .. according to him .. the honey will help your body to cool down during ride and maintain optimal body temperature .. it could prevent your body and other parts from heating and over heat … beside providing a sustain energy .. and eat what anything  you like during meals ..
He packed light .. in the pannier the is only 3 pair of riding clothes .. even for longer touring journey .. the most important is what you’ll wear during night / rest time .. it must be clean and dry .. this condition will speed up your body recovery and optimize the energy charging .. good rest will result good ride and great journey .. shop during touring .. get reasonable price shirts .. you are touring from one city to another, not an expedition of MTB in the forest far from civilization.. but don’t shop till you drop !!!
While riding outside, you are exposing your body to nature .. your body will suit the nature naturally .. whether hot or rainy day .. the ride should be on .. the stronger body will adapt and keep up with the environment changes .. but this is more on individual judgement larrr .. not pukul rata one .. you know better your body … and you are riding on your preferable and phase .. and most important it is your decision and your responsible .. get waterproof pannier and bag ..

Above said are some interesting infos for me to share larrr .. the rest are common .. get steel frame for hustle free maintenance .. means, it will be easy to repair if the frame dent or fracture during the journey .. higher your handlebar and lower you seatpost for comfort and longer ride .. avoid to put a pressure and tension on your back and spine .. ride during daytime only .. do not ride at nite unless you are sure that your destination is within the cycling distance and safe ..

Mr vee and me exchange our contact number .. unfortunately he don’t have a Facebook account or blog for us to read he touring stories .. maybe there are hidden somewhere on the net .. lets find out later .. he continue his touring to PJ, and me to the glenmarie .. interesting and inspiring to meet with an international solo bicycle tourer .. free and easy, enjoy life and spend time wisely to see the world .. and to think and thank god the mighty creator ..

For those who want to write the support to mr veechian .. just email him at veechian@hotmail.com

Cycle to work - choosing route

View Cycling to Work in a larger map

cycle to work sound interesting  .. but to put in the action .. there are plenty of things and considerations before you take out the bike and hit the road .. in depends and vary from one person to person .. as for me, safety always a priority ..

cycle to work should be fun and safe .. you know yourself better than other people .. you know when you are ready .. now it is time to think about the environmental factors of safety .. the route .. choose the best route .. for me the best route is the less traffic and the shortest in distance .. from klang to Bandar utama it will be 30-35km one way .. there are plenty of access .. the main is federal highway and LDP, second is NKVE, third using KESAS and NKVE or LDP and list goes on by mix and fit the combination of the road .. but all the routes mention was dominated by motorist .. which advantage in speed compare to bicycle ..

so, where should I ride and hit .. google maps are very helpful during scouting and planning the route .. I put away the motocycle lane aside, highway as well and definitely there are restricted for bicycle to be in the highway .. it is illegal and breaking the rules .. none and never ever any vehicles without engine to be in the highway .. it is apply almost at all highway in Malaysia .. but some highway still allow this to happen .. and they record the death tolls of the unlucky cyclist being hit by typical reckless drivers .. so sad when this happen .. when it can be prevent before it happen .. why choose highway to cycle ? enough said ..

back to the ground .. from klang to shah alam .. I’ve got two options .. via town and hit the federal motorcycle lane .. quite dangerous and the shortest way to go thru shah alam .. the second one is via CEB to sg rasah along jalan batu tiga lama until it cutoff at the carlberg .. mix traffic of cars, buses, and lorries .. the exact word doesn’t come across rite now .. I’m mark up the risk taking level and boost my confident level to ride in motorcycle lane .. phase one complete ..
now second phase, shah alam to subang .. again the federal motorcycle lane provide the shortest in distance .. whahlau !!! but other than that I’ve glenmerie in the list and kampong melayu subang .. glenmerie landscape and moderate hill climb and less traffic after a junction to subang jaya .. while jalan kampong melayu subang almost flat but a bit longer .. ok I kick out federal highway and jalan kampong melayu subang .. climb some hill sure will pay you with downhill .. hah .. I could save my energy and put little push on the momentum to drive forward ..
last phase of the journey .. subang to Bandar utama .. where can I ride if not using LDP or use back way via dataran prima ? both ways are heavy with traffic and killing the breath .. the CO2 level are high .. ohh now I’m an environmentalist plak .. no no no .. I just wanna say that the asap from other vehicles could distract your focus in riding .. and the tension arouse while ride along the heavy trafficvroad .. thanks god, the development on surrounding area of subang area intensive after subang international airport has moved the operation to KLIA .. new place called ara damansara suddenly appeared in between subang and Bandar utama .. I’ve see ara damansara as another luxury residential .. full with guarded and gated housing estates .. as well planned new township the area provide wider road and path of pavement along the way for pedestrians and cyclists .. thank you developer .. even the traffic are increasing it still managed to coupe for the time being ..
that’s it .. when I put it all together, klang > shah alam > glenmeri > subang > ara damansara > Bandar utama = +-33km .. yahhh it is crazy distances for some .. but I think it is still in my cycling distance .. and I make it ..  it almost like my Sunday loop .. home > kpg kuantan > klang > lontong > Bandar botanic > andalas > home ..

it is unexpected to see or meet with other riders whose also cycling to work .. today just after subang I’ve met kota damansara specialized’s mechanic. With same objective and interest we ride along ara damansara area .. hmm  I’m not alone cycling to work .. other people also ride mehhhh .. we split up at Tropicana junction .. I’m off to Bandar utama and he off to kota damansara ..

till next time .. be safe on the route and enjoy cycling .. cycle for smarter planet ..
