Day 2

We planned to check out as early as 0700hrs, but we wake up at 0730hrs on Day 2. Huh!!! The morning ride was more like warming up and lazily paddled till Sungai Pelek for breakfast. Now we can see the peaceful scenery of kampung area, the economy activities they run for country contribution and the people of surrounding area. Then, we bumped with a group of riders that heading to Bagan Lalang. Maybe be they were from nearby area since no one carry backpack nor hydra-bag.

It was 0900hrs when we reached Kedai Mamak of Sungai Pelek, I've order roti sardin and nescafe tarik for today ride supplement. One family was having a breakfast, the kid look interest with our bikes and talk something to his dad. Dad and son talk. That very harmony and respect. I wish I could bring my family to ride together with me later some times. After that we continued the ride back to Putra Perdana.

The ride was smooth due it is still early in the morning. We stop every 20 minutes for quick drink and maintain 25km/h all the way to Salak Tinggi. Second break was at the stall near the highway after Kota Warisan before we entering Putrajaya area. Signboard show that 18km to Puchong and the time was around 1130am. I've estimate we could complete the ride about an hour to Putra Perdana. 18km shown was using the highway to Puchong but we were not using that route. We gonna turn into Cyberjaya and Pulau Meranti before reaching Putra Perdana later. By entering Pulau Meranti we are almost there, the end of our tour. So, we ride easily and enjoy every paddle we pushed.

By 1245hrs we reached our final destination. Congrats our-selves and celebrate the safe touring with a glass of ice lime. Thanks god for this successful touring and safety along the route. We gain a confident to make another touring next time. With on the road experience we have learned few thing about long distance touring. This will help a lot on my next journey and ultimate touring around Peninsular Malaysia next year, 2011. End of route.

Enjoy ride, be safe.

Touring Puchong Perdana > Bagan Lalang > Putra Perdana

View Touring Puchong Perdana > Bagan Lalang > Putra Perdana in a larger map

After a successful short touring to Kelana Jaya from Klang and return, I couldn't stop thinking to make another touring. I've start surveying potential destination to ahead within 100km radius one way. Few place come out to be shortlisted. Up to the north, they are Pantai Remis, Jeram, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam. Down to the south, they are Morib, Bagan Lalang, Kuala Lukut and Port Dickson.

I didn't plan to make a solo ride. At least there should be 2 riders along for this touring. But, if no one along I will still make the ride. Bad had voluntarily wanna join me but after return from bee farm visit, he was ill and unable to ride. Not sure weather he could recover before Saturday. Let's see.

Friday, I've choose the destination - Bagan Lalang, Sepang. Called Bad for participation and he agreed. But the tour will start from Puchong Perdana instead of Klang and finish in Putra Perdana a day after. Roughly the plan just like this. On Day 1, touring distance is about 70km and should be arrive the destination with in 2 and half hours riding. Average speed is between 15 to 20km/h. The route will pass thru Bukit Puchong, Pulau Meranti, PICC, Kota Warisan, Salak Tinggi, SIC, Sungai Pelek and Bagan Lalang. Next on Day 2, the ride back also the same distance but we will turn into Cyberjaya to Pulau Meranti and straight to Putra Perdana.

Day 1

As planned I've arrived in Puchong Perdana at 0700hrs. But, the bad Bad didn't wake up yet. Hmm. This is bad. When you start late, you'll be punish by the sun. Absolutely high and dry. We started at 0820hrs after having a breakfast. We pass Pulau Meranti about an hour later before entering the highway. The highway is clear with less traffic. We continued the ride as fast as we can, maintaining 30km/h. Bad had run out of the water and we divert the route into Dengkil. We have pass thru Putrajaya Challenge Park on our left before we stop at Kedai Mamak to refill.

About half an hour stop we continued the ride back to the highway. It was 11am already. The sky was clear and the sun was bright. Traffic on the road had increased with motorists. At this stage we were 1/3 from entire tour. I knew this not going to be easy for me. I'm not sure about Bad. The route to Kota Warisan is wide with 2 lanes for motorist and 1 lane for cyclist plus emergency lane. Since this is highway, no tree to shade our path. The sun direct on our heads. And the route served us with couples climbing.

At the end of the highway we've turn left in to Salak Tinggi. We have stopped at Petronas for second break, the time showed almost 1200hrs with about 30km remaining. We were far behind scheduled. Very far. But the touring must be completed, by bikes or by bus. No matter how, we must arrive in Bagan Lalang.

The ride to Sg Pelek was entirely under the hot sun, passing thru small and old township and hill side palm oil estates. Whenever there was a climb, there must be down hill. It was paired. There was couples moderate climb. We managed to get thru around 15km/h climb and get almost 40km/h during down hill. That's a big relief. We arrived at Sungai Pelek and stopped at Shell for third break. Another 17km remaining. we continued to Bagan Lalang without having lunch. We try to get there as soon as possible.

Sharp at 2pm, we reached Bagan Lalang and straight to local chalet for accommodation. We managed to get small room with air-cond, TV and inside bathroom. That's more than basic we need. Rest and relax till evening before headed to the beach and cycling around the village.

End route of Day 1 and celebrating the successful ride with seafood and a jug of ice lemon tea. Yammm!!!

To be continue ..

Touring Klang > Kelana Jaya

I'm keep on thinking and planning to commute to the office using my Fuji. The thinking is on and off all these months .. Can I make it or not .. It is not about distance issue .. That's for sure won't be any harm or problem to me .. But the issues playing in my head was like .. what if raining, puncture, injury and list goes on till no end .. From Klang to Kelana Jaya is about 25km one way .. I've ride more than that every evening and took me around an hour to finish .. So logically it is possible and ride-able ..

Yesterday, my car tire was punctured, again after I've done the patching .. It was very frustrated me and sparked an anger in me somehow .. The spare tire is ok and ready inside the boot .. It would take me just 10 minutes to fix them .. And the problem solved .. But, that's not the action after the decision making .. I've got better plan .. Ride to the office .. Yes, the most suitable and reasonable time to ride to Kelana Jaya. I put all issues of potential excuses aside .. Take out my bike and start the ride ..

It was almost dark when I'm started .. My lights is not enough, 3 blinkers at the rear to be visible and 1 torch in front to light up the route .. Tawakal illahi ta'ala .. I've maintained my speed at 25km/h on flat area and keep me above 20km/h while climbing .. Sharp 8pm, I've reached my office after an hour and fifteen minutes, 27.42km non stop ride .. Fuhhh!!!

Next day, the ride would continued to Klang .. Could I make it this time ? Supposed I'm able to ride back home .. It just another 25 km plus minus .. Combining them it would be about 50km total .. That figure qualified in my touring definition .. And almost as standard as jamboree route distance organized lately ..

Enjoy ride, be safe.

Trail Putrajaya

No big ride this week since FRIM on Saturday. I ride like usual. Klang and its surrounding area still my playing ground. Try to keep the riding distant around 30km daily at average as regular. 60km daily is beyond my capability yet. Hence, I don't have that much time to ride in single day.

In short of daytime to ride, maybe nite ride is an option. But, it is not wise to ride alone. I put a safety ahead beyond everything. Even I'm prepared with lights, blinkers and reflector vest, anything could happen if I'm riding alone. Not to ask for something bad, but better safe than sorry.

Bad and I had join with Nasir TM team to ride in Putrajaya at nite. The ride planned to start at 2100hrs. I took off from office at 2030hrs and have to meet with Bad at Petronas Station in LDP on the way to Putrajaya. I had roger Adznee to ride along tonite. This guy had dragged me into this MTB activity but seldom ride with me. This is unacceptable.

Back to the ride, the nite was cool. Maybe it was raining early at the evening. This will be cool along the ride. The TM team leaded by Fauzi as usual aka permanent host had take us to PICC, around Desa Pinggiran and Alamanda before we reaching back Dataran Putra. Total distance is about 22km plus minus. The road was clear, lights along the way and less traffics. There were also other teams as well that nite.

The ride was fun with the team. 12 riders all count from various background and locations. We complete the ride almost midnite. Like usual the ride will end with 'teh tarik' session but sorry guys I couldn't make it. Call of duty tomorrow morning at 8. End of the route.

Enjoy ride, be safe.

Trail Kota Raja > Shah Alam

The sky look so clear and blue. No sign of rain. It was around 1545hrs.

"Good, could start early today", I said to myself.

Took out the bike and plan heading to Shah Alam in my head. But which way to take? Should I took Federal Highway or Alam Impian. Since it was early, I used the route via Alam Impian which was riden before with Farid for nite ride. Alam Impian is another new planned middle to high cost housing area development. The infrastructure was developed first before other things. The road was complete and the public park almost done. Only the highway section still under construction but it's already open for traffics as alternative route.

It took me 55 minutes ride time to arrive Seksyen 7, Shah Alam. The sky has changed dramatically, so sudden the blue sky had turn to dark and lightning struck and flash. The rain pouring down a minute later. So heavy, thanks God you gave me a chance for a shelter. Waited for half an hour, the rain show a sign to stop.

"Better, take off before its pouring back".

The ride continued to Klang via Federal Highway using motorist lane. Managed to arrive Jalan Demang 6, sharp at 1800hrs. Totally wet and splashy. Huh!!! Covered distance 29.67km at 22.23km/h average speed. End of route.

Enjoy ride, be safe.

Trail FRIM Part II

This trail report is quite long this time. Previously we were 100% concentrate to climb and to downhill. Now it is time for refreshment aka coffee session. Bon take us out from FRIM compound headed to a Malay warung. We took this time to discuss, share, and exchange about those trails that we have went through. The important of warming up, using a right gear while climbing, do not touch your brake disc while it hot with bare hand, setup an iMapMyRide account, as an example to say. Also we discuss about the next trail that we are going to explore after this. And not forgotten to humiliate few friends who are unable to join the ride and those who have gave up the bike. Sorry guys, it just fun and full with lessons.

    Fuhyoo!! @ Knowledge Cafe

Next must route to explore is the famous single of Dream's Trail. The trail s ride-able but little bit technical and tactical plus minus. It is full with roots and slippy. The slip might be due to my high pressure of front tyre, plus the trail is wet.

 Dream's Trail

The trail end somewhere in the middle of nowhere and joint to regular trail. The was another group waiting for their team member. Someone we have met in Dream Trail earlier. The port consider full and we decide to leave for another port. Where to ?!! Waterfall, yeah!!!

Dewa Pawaka finalist photo session.

Cool

The rides are in rest mode

The waterfall will be in a must spot to stop every time we ride in FRIM. It is cool and so refresh. All sweats and tears vanish along the cool flow of the water. Better prepared another short or boxer to wear after this. We spend almost an hour here till we felt hungry again. Next pit stop is official kedai mamak of FRIM. I took meehun with sambal bilis tempe and a banana this time, previously I just having two half boiled eggs only.

Lunch time

The clock show 1200hrs after third break, it is time to leave. FRIM has lots of trail and excitement. It's green is so peaceful and calm. All troubles for the whole weeks at the workplace has gone, even for temporary but it helps alot. Sure we will come back again to ride here.

FRIM

The route not end here yet. The ride back to PKKN was hilarious and crazy. Everyone cut each other to take lead. I managed once before we reach Steroid Hill, the downhill was fast and bumpy. At one point my brake didn't work accordingly. Of course the brake has clamp the disc, but the bike wouldn't stop. Feels like losing control, the split second decision to make. I knew, it is my time. To apply the viral stop technic of 'brake hutan'. Fuhhh, succeed. How's it work? You can't imagine it and I won't reveal it.

Second part of down hill was crazier and scary. No grip at all on front and rear tyres.  I just let the bike went down the hill as it wish. This is what we ask before, this is what we got. Thrill and excitement and experience and punctured tyre. Huh!!

We get to PKKN still in one piece. Thanks God, for a safe ride. End of route. All images credited to Anat and taking via his iPhone.

Enjoy ride, be safe.

Trail FRIM via Sg Buloh

After suboh, Farid Cakar Harimau and I met at Bon Harimau Belang's house. As planned today's ride will be held at FRIM. It just 3 of us from Klang and we take off at 0645hrs, convoyed to Sg Buloh using NKVE and PLUS highway. By 0730hrs, we have arrived at Pusat Kawalan Kusta Negara. Followed by Hisham and his 21 years old sidekick; and later Anat of Alam Impian.

Hisham lead the pack, while Bon as helmet video guy and Anat as sweeper aka ride's cameraman. Every bikes were set and all riders were ready, so lets the ride begin.

The trail from PKKN will be crossing the historic wards of Hospital Kusta, the Cured Kusta Settlement which now has transform to lovely floral nurseries. Ahead is in the making of Fakulti Pergigian of UiTM and small kampung before we entered to FRIM area.

UiTM branch of Sg Buloh

The entrance has served us with long climb, not so hard but quite tough. This first climb had claimed lot of my power and degrade my energy level somehow. An advice and reminder to myself next time, please warm up!! I am not the one who struggle the climb, some of the rest also. I've conclude, that this pack could be separate into 2 sub groups, hard and tough.

First stop after the big climb.
From left Hisham's sidekick, kudean, hisham, bon, farid

We continued the ride with moderate climb and downhill to the bottom of Steroid Hill. Before we reach the spot, we were stopped by the FRIM Ranger for entry fee. It is RM3/bike. It is more than reasonable and worth. By paying the fee we have contribute to save and maintain the reservoir and inherit the forest to our next generation. The ranger had inform us that FRIM will organize an jamboree in June and invite us to join the event.

Mobile ranger counter. Efficient and flexible.

Steroid Hill is a must climb to conquer if you ride in FRIM. It is almost 500 meter and about 45 degree climb. I've tried to skip this one with few excuses but none was bought by others. Second time in FRIM but my first attempt to conquer Steroid Hill. Definitely, using the lightest gear. The climb is tricky with bumpy surface. Little by little I've push the pedal. Every push become heavy to heavier. I didn't knew how long to reach the peak but I'm keep pushing till I saw the rest stopby. It is 3/4 to go. We stopped to hale some air and water.

Bumpy surface has add another difficulty to the trail.

The trail could be continue up to Salem Hill which locate a helipad. That's another hard to die climb, only the daredevil and diehard MTB biker could ride up in one shot. The tough climb pay with excite downhill.

We managed to climb till helipad, but this helipad is for RC type.

A dilemma encounter for the pack as some were eagerly wanna ride up the Salem Hill or going down the Bukit Putus single trail. And another some just wanna get down using the chicken loop. After a short argument we decide to avoid both trails and get down using the regular trail.

On the right beyond riders' head is the trail to Salem Hill. Next time I will conquer.
But for now I wanna enjoy the thrill and excitement of downhill.

Every climb come with downhill. It is time now. This was the long downhill. Started from the bottom of Salem Hill till the bottom of Steroid Hill. The downhill was so awesome till burn almost all bikes brake. Max speed downhill touch 30.1 mph aka 48.44 kmh. The ride to Jalan Kapur are mixed of up and down the hill. It end with full adrenalin down hill of small rock trail. All of us has completed the first chapter of the FRIM ride in one piece. Now it's time for refreshment.

Enjoy and full of excitement. Introduce Anat at the center.

End of chapter one. Will be continue ..
